Ko Wen-je : ウィキペディア英語版
Ko Wen-je

Ko Wen-je (; born 6 August 1959 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan) is the incumbent mayor of Taipei, the capital city of Republic of China (Taiwan).〔(Independent Is Elected Taipei Mayor as Taiwan’s Governing Party Falters )〕 Before being elected mayor, he was an attending physician and Chairman of the Department of Traumatology at National Taiwan University Hospital. He was also a professor at National Taiwan University College of Medicine and specialises in trauma, intensive care, organ transplant, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and artificial organs among others.〔(Biography at NTUH )〕 Due to his profession, he has been nicknamed Ko P or KP (which stands for Professor Ko, and is how he is customarily referred to within National Taiwan University (NTU)). Ko was responsible for standardising organ transplant procedures in Taiwan, and was the first physician to bring ECMO to Taiwan. Apart from his practice, Ko is known for his numerous media appearances and interviews as a social and political commentator.
In the 2014 Taipei Mayoral Election, Ko ran as an independent candidate. He beat out Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Pasuya Yao in the opposition primary,〔(Ko Wen-je wins Taipei opposition polls )〕 resulting in the DPP and Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) supporting Ko as the candidate for the Pan-Green Coalition. Ko won the election with 853,983 votes to become the first non-partisan mayor of the city since the introduction of direct election of the office.
==Personal background==

Wen-je's grandfather, Ko Shih-yuan, was born in 1895 when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. Shih-yuan graduated from Taipei Normal School (now National Taipei University of Education) in 1924, and became an instructor at Hsinchu First Public School (now Hsinchu Primary).〔() 1924年台北師範學校畢業名單〕〔() 台北教育大學畢業校友資料〕 He later became headmaster at Hsinchu Girls School of Home Economics,〔() 台灣總督府職員錄〕〔() 建華國中歷史〕 and finally the School Inspector for the Shinchiku Prefecture. As a result of the February 28 Incident, Shih-yuan was taken into custody by the Kuomintang (KMT) for three days, during which time he was beaten so badly that he was left bedridden for more than three years, up to his death in 1950 at age 54.〔() 台灣有文明沒文化〕〔() 蘋中信:別透過失敗者了解台灣(柯文哲)〕 Shih-yuan was included in a list of 491 victims in the 228 Remembrance Document issued by President Chen Shui-bian on 2 August 2003. His grandson, Wen-je, keeps a copy of the document on the wall in his office.〔() 柯文哲 良心大砲關不住〕
Wen-je's father, Ko Cheng-cha, born in 1933, was accepted into the College of Medicine of National Taiwan University (NTU), but as his eldest brother was already studying there and his family could not afford to pay tuition for both, Cheng-fah decided to study at Hsinchu Normal School which was publicly subsidised. He taught at Hsinchu Dong Yuan Elementary School for 32 years. Upon retirement, Cheng-fa made some favourable real estate investments in and around Hsinchu, and currently works as a consultant for Japanese companies in the Hsinchu Science Park. Owing to his own father's treatment during the February 28 Incident, Cheng-fah has been openly against his son's participation in politics since Wen-je announced his candidacy for Taipei Mayor.
Wen-je's mother, Ho Juei-mei, is a retired public servant. Wen-je is her eldest son. Mei-lan, Wen-je's younger sister, graduated from Kaohsiung Medical University and is an ophthalmologist. Mei-lan received her Doctorate from Taipei Medical University.
Ko's wife, Chen Pei-chi, was born in Penghu, Taiwan.〔() 澎湖是一種血統〕 She graduated from Makung Senior High School and NTU's Department of Medicine. She is the director of obstetrics for Taipei City Hospital, Heping Women and Children's Centre. Ko and Chen had an arranged marriage, and have three children: one boy and two girls.〔() 聽某嘴大富貴! 柯文哲買到信義線好房〕
In May 2013, Ko revealed in print media that his son has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. Ko himself also shows symptoms and, if he has the disorder, it could explain some of his behaviour.〔()〕
